As seen in the Wall Street Journal
Welcome to readers of the Wall Street Journal , where this blog is recommended today in Julien Vernet’s “Blog Watch” column:
Edward Hasbrouck posts infrequently, but his blog is adept at exploring the balance between airline security and passenger privacy. A journalist and travel expert, Mr. Hasbrouck brings to the table in-depth knowledge of the travel industry. For example, he is credited with being first to report that JetBlue Airways handed over millions of reservation records to government contractors working on a secuirty project in 2002.
As a springboard for discussing airline issues, Mr. Hasbrouck likes to use episodes of The Amazing Race , a CBS reality show in which contestants race around the world. After a team on the show missed a flight from Moscow because of problems with a computerized reservation system, Mr. Hasbrouck commented on the advantages of paper versus electronic tickets.
If you are new to this blog, and interested in airline security and passenger privacy, you might want to start with my latest horror story and this follow-up article with links to additional background information.
But that’s not the only topic of discussion here. Like my books , this Web site provides a wide range of advice and consumer advocacy for do-it-yourself travellers. Here are a few selected tidbits to whet your appetite:
- Frequenty-asked questions about airline bankruptcies
- Government subsidies to airlines
- Tips for a trip around the world
- Ecotourism and the ecology of independent travel
- Weekly columns about each episode of ‘The Amazing Race’
(I’m grateful for the kind words from the Journal , since the last time I was mentioned in that newspaper was when I was denounced by name on their op-ed page — although that was by a freelance contributor, not by the Journal or its editors or staff, and they did publish my letter in rebuttal.)
