Quick trip to Brussels

I’ll be in Brussels and Paris from January 14th through 20th to participate in the annual conference on Computers, Privacy and Data Protection This year’s theme is “Data Protection in a Profiled World”, and I’ll be talking about some of the issues with surveillance and control of travelers, and the protection (or not) of travel data, that I’ve recently written about here and here .

[Update: My presentation at the conference is here (HTML) or here (PDF).]

On the more fun (but hopefully also thought-provoking) side, I’ll be giving a presentation on “Around The World In 20 Questions” as part of a Pecha Kucha night in Brussels on Friday, January 16th. The event runs from 20:00-23:55 at Ancienne Belgique, Ave. Anspachlaan 110, Brussels. It’s free, but advance registration is required.

[Update: My Pecha Kucha presentation has been posted on Youtube.]

"Don't believe anything just because you read it on the Internet. Anyone can say anything on the Internet, and they do. The Internet is the most effective medium in history for the rapid global propagation of rumor, myth, and false information." (From The Practical Nomad Guide to the Online Travel Marketplace, 2001)
