Travel Forum in Boston on Friday, November 20th
I’m leading a workshop on travel writing in Boston next Friday as part of Hostelling International’s Centennial celebration events.
I know it’s a weekday, but I think it will be worth the time if you can make it.
Friday morning, there are workshops by experts in travel photography, travel technology, “voluntourism”, green travel, travel writing (that’s me), and adventure travel. In the afternoon, there’s an extended all-star panel discussion on “Backpack Diplomacy: Youth Travel as a Force for Change” with EthicalTraveler.org founder Jeff Greenwald, Lonely Planet co-founder Tony Wheeler, and Rolf Potts of Vagabonding, moderated by Pauline Frommer.
It’s all free, open to the public, and happening conveniently downtown at the Park Plaza Hotel, at Arlington Street station on the Green Line. (Note that this event is orgnaized by Hostelling International-USA, but it’s not at the fine HI hostel in Boston — I’ve spoken there before, but it doesn’t have space for an event like this.)
Usually my public presentations are about how to travel, rather than about how to write about travel, so this will be different. I’m a bit nervous, but very much looking forward to it.
Advance registration for any or all of the day’s events is free and optional but strongly recommended to ensure that you’ll get in.
See you next week in Boston! (I expect to be on the East Coast through the first week in December for other business in New York and Washington, so get in touch ASAP if you’re interested in organizing other events in the region.)

Will the workshops be available on the web? Either video, audio or even preso slides? I would love to listen to or read your presentation and the adventure travel one, however location wise it's not possible to physically be there (I'm in Australia).

Posted by: TomTraveler, 17 November 2009, 15:21 ( 3:21 PM)My understanding is that the organizers (Hostelling International-USA) plan to record at least the afternoon session, and that excerpts may show up on Pauline Frommer's radio show (which is available online, live and as an MP3 podcast). But I'm not sure about the morning workshops. I'll post a link if I they are made available online.
I don't have a recorder with me on this trip -- I've been thinking of getting a Zoom H2 to replace my dead minidisc recorder, but had decided I couldn't justify the expense just now, and won't have a chance to get one before Friday morning. I may need to get one before my next talk!
Anyone who comes to my workshop in Boston is welcome to record it to share with those who can't be there in person. If someone sends me a decent quality MP3, I'll be happy to post it.

This workshop helped me to clear my doubts and some of the ideas which i was supposed to be fill in for my project which i am gonna start now.Thanks a lot for this workshop.
